Sony's Computer Products Division is pleased to announce the release of the AIT-2 'SI' bundles, incorporating our new high capacity Advanced Intelligent Tape 2 drives. AIT was developed by Sony for the purpose of storing large amounts of data in an efficient and reliable manner. The SDX-300C series drives and media, aided by the Advanced Metal Evaporated (AME) tape formulation, achieve a capacity of 25GB (native), 50GB (hardware compressed at a ratio of 2:1) on a single AIT data cartridge. The AIT-2 SDX-500C series is the second generation of Sony's innovative AIT product family, illustrating Sony's commitment to advancing this tape technology into the next millennium. With up to 50GB native capacity per tape (utilizing an SDX2-50C data cartridge) and a 6MB/s native transfer rate, the AIT-2 offers largest capacity and better performance of any other technology in it's class. All in a compact 3.5" half-height form factor (internal AIT-2 drive), assuring AIT-2 will fit the demanding capacity and speed your application needs. Trellis Coded Partial Response (TCPR-1), the data encoding used by AIT-2, improves effective signal output, thus increasing read reliability. TCPR combined with Sony's patented Hyper Metald laminate heads, which provide an additional increase to signal-to-noise ratio, provide AIT-2 with one of the highest levels of data integrity. When combined with the field proven mechanics, AIT provides an ideal solution for the demanding environments of HSM, tape array and robotics applications. Incorporating a 64Kbit flash memory chip into the AIT-2 data cartridge provides an express route to data, reducing average access time to less than 20 seconds. AIT-2 also features a remote-sensing, non-contact MIC reader, extending the life of the reader. High Capacity - Sony AIT-1 tape drives deliver up to 91 GB capacity (with 2.6:1 co
